Where to go in Istanbul

Tanzimat Museum

First opened in the Ihlamur Pavilion in 1952, the Tanzimat Museum was moved first to Yildiz Park in 1969, then in 1983 to a most appropriate location, the Gülhane Park, where the Ottoman Sultan had issued the imperial decree of reforms, which ushered in the Tanzimat (Reform) period.

This museum is dedicated to the display of documents and objects dating from the Tanzimat period of reform and Westernization between the years 1839-1876.
